Seminar on Psycho Social effect of Alcholic dependence

POSTER MAKING COMPETITION

This too will pass.

The Department of Psychology conducted a 'poster making competition' as a part of its departmental activities on Tuesday,7th of Aug at 4.15 pm in the Psychology lab.The competition was open only for the Psychology students.The theme for the competition was 'ADDICTION'.The competition gave a platform for the students to bring out their creative side.All's well that ends well.

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department of Psychology at St. Aloysius College was established in the year 2000. The initial batch consisted of 30 students with Ms . Ratna Pinto as the faculty. Psychology is a field about you and me . To understand this you and me Rev Fr Prashanthn Madtha started a course in psychology under the faculty of Arts. Ms. Shalini Aiyappa, the present HOD, joined the department of psychology at St. Aloysius College in the year 2001. The department has flourished ever since under her efficient and committed leadership. The psychology laboratory was set up in the year 2003 and was blessed by Rev Dr Fr Eugene Lobo.Since its inception it has to its credits many innovations in teaching and learning , participated and won many events at the intercollegiate and national level . students have produced documentaries ,journals ,etc seminars ,talks, presentations ,group discussions ,reviews are a regular feature of the dept. The department also offers a certificate course in basic skills in counselling for students of psychology and other disciplines. Ms wilma Neetha Vaz is the co ordinator for the certificate course .

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Psychology department is well furnished with a department library, a well equipped laboratory, educational models, charts and CDs.The department employs innovative teaching techniques including power point presentations, paper presentations, group discussions etc.The department brings out an annual journal called "Psyche".Various activities are organized by the department for the welfare of the students.Visits to old age homes, hospitals, Aloysian Boy's home, correction homes and psychiatric hospitals are conducted. Inter class activities like quiz, case analysis etc are also held.The present staff consist of Ms. Shalini Aiyappa, HOD and Ms. Wilma Vaz.The depatrment presently consists of 83 students.

What is Psychology.....

One of the most common questions asked by students new to the study of psychology is "What is psychology?" Misperceptions created by popular media as well as the diverse careers paths of those holding psychology degrees have contributed this confusion. Psychology is both an applied and academic field that studies the human mind and behavior. Research in psychology seeks to understand and explain thought, emotion, and behavior. Applications of psychology include mental health treatment, performance enhancement, self-help, ergonomics, and many other areas affecting health and daily life.
